NAME ANALYSIS
"Je" if translated from French is "I" and "kyll" when pronounced alone sounds similar to "kill". This makes "Jekyll" become "I kill" which may also hint to future events such as the murder of Carew or the death of Lanyon. It may also hint to the end of the book where Jekyll/Hyde commits suicide.

NAME ANALYSIS
Robert L. Stevenson purposefully had chosen the name 'Utterson' because 'Utter' means to 'cry out' which does show how he is the main person telling the story. It shows that he will be a consistent character. His first name 'Gabriel' could have been chosen from the fact that Gabriel is also the name of an angel from the bible.
